It is our annual ten-day morning prayer meeting that happens on the second week of the new year.
Praying church is a thriving church. The early church prayed “collectively” for the Holy Spirit’s empowering presence for evangelism and mission. We also want to help our members build the habit of prayer to experience a fulfilling, thriving faith.
1. Praise (5 mins)
2. Message (10-15 mins)
It will be based on a book, which changes every year.
It allows the church to learn something together and grow together.
3. Praying with partners (10-15 mins)
Each partner shares an urgent or important prayer request that can be answered in 10 days.
After the message, break out into the group and pray out loud for each other for 10 minutes.
The group leader ends the prayer, and members are gathered back.
4. Personal prayer time (optional)
Once the Guided Prayer video (15 mins) plays, feel free to leave or continue to pray from this point.
In Ecclesiastes 4:12, it says, “And if someone overpowers one person, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.” Getting into the habit of prayer can be challenging when done alone. But with three people encouraging and keeping each other accountable, it can happen much easier. It also provides an opportunity to get to know people outside of your immediate circle and start a brand new connection. A good prayer group consists of people in different faith stages.
If you sign up, we can match you with other participants without partners. So, even if you can’t find one, sign up anyway.
After praying for each other, you are free to leave the meeting. But we know that there are people who want to continue to pray. So, we created a video that displays Bible verses about prayer with inspiring music. It is divided into five main components of prayer: Praise, Thanksgiving, Confession, Request, and Intercession. It will help you learn to pray in a balanced way for 15 minutes, even if you’ve never prayed before. You just need to read them out aloud! Even if you are well-versed in prayer, it will help you reinforce the area you have neglected or missed unintentionally in your prayer life.
Do I need to purchase the book?
We encourage you to purchase the book and read it along based on the plan. But it is up to you.
Does perfect attendance matter?
Yes and No.
No, because we understand things happen in life, and the lifestyle of prayer is more important than attending a prayer meeting. But finishing the entire ten days of EMP with all your prayer partners is a remarkable feat worth celebrating. So, there will be a secret reward for perfect attendance, so, yes, it does matter in that sense!
Tim Keller, pastor of New York’s Redeemer Presbyterian Church and the New York Times bestselling author of The Reason for God, has taught and counselled students, young professionals, and senior leaders on the subject of work and calling for more than twenty years. Now he pulls his insights into a thoughtful and practical book for readers everywhere.
With deep conviction and often surprising advice, Keller shows readers that biblical wisdom is immensely relevant to our questions about work today. In fact, the Christian view of work—that we work to serve others, not ourselves—can provide the foundation of a thriving professional and balanced personal life. Keller shows how excellence, integrity, discipline, creativity, and passion in the workplace can help others and even be considered acts of worship—not just of self-interest.
