202. Start One, Stop One

One pastor once said that he plans “one habit to stop, and one habit to start every year. So I started doing the same, starting a few years ago. I’ve always wanted to drink more water, but it still felt like a cumbersome routine. But last year, I decided to drink 2L of water a day, and the thing I did differently was to get a 2L bottle and fill it up every morning. I knew from experience that getting…

201. Negative Event, Positive Interpretation

2020 is almost coming to an end. The Pandemic we experienced this year will be remembered in the future, along with 9/11, iPhone, and social media, as the event significantly changed the way people think and behave. As we reflect on 2020, I believe there are two main groups of people: Those who interpret the Pandemic as positive and those who see it as negative. A pandemic is undoubtedly a negative event. However, negative event doesn’t require negative interpretation. In…

Starting Point (3) Testimony — Seoyeon Yoo

Hello everyone, I am Seoyeon Yoo and I will be sharing my experience with you all on my journey with Starting Point.  I was introduced to this study by my youth leader Esther Sung, but in all honesty, I took Starting Point impulsively not knowing what I would be getting myself into. However, now that I’ve experienced it, I could have not been more grateful for this opportunity. It was a study full of reflection and healing.  Before I took…

Starting Point (3) Testimony — Angela Kang

Hi everyone! My name is Angela and today I will be sharing my Starting Point bible study testimony. For 8 weeks, I took Starting Point, a bible study where we learn more about Jesus and where we can freely ask questions about faith in a conversational environment.  Looking back, before I started Starting Point, I was very unstable and under extreme stress, trying to balance grade 12 and university applications all during the pandemic. During this time, Sarah, my youth…

We are starting our very first prayer meeting at The Seed. It is from 1/4-18 (except weekends), and it starts at 6 am on Zoom. Many people want to get in the habit of Prayer. But it is difficult to do alone. So, members will form a group of three and, after the sermon, pray together for 10 minutes for each other’s urgent prayer request for 2021, then are free to leave or continue to pray on their own. Having…

199. Hiring Youth Pastor

Our church has decided to hire current youth director Anthony as youth pastor. It will be a part-time position, but we plan to increase his role moving forward. Given how faithful he has been with his part, it wasn’t a difficult decision. Both congregation leadership have gladly agreed and expressed it as a great sign of growth for ESC (English Speaking Congregation). As I shared last week, ESC will cover 50% of its lead pastor’s salary starting next year. That…

198. Financial Autonomy Update

As ESC (English Speaking Congregation), we started managing our finance this year, apart from KSC (Korean Speaking Congregation). We initiated this financial autonomy project for two primary reasons. First, we wanted to make ministry decision wisely and quickly in light of our unique English speaking and multi-cultural context, which is very different from KSC. We thought it was necessary to have financial autonomy to make decisions that will help us reach the unchurched people effectively without unnecessary administrative limitations from…
